OUR
MISSION AND GOAL
A Minor Seminary is not an ordinary secondary school.
It is a Private Religious Institution where boys who would
like to become Priests (Rev. Fathers) are given a sound religious,
moral and academic education.
The boys at this Seminary are of secondary school age about
11 to 17 and they run normal academic courses similar to that
of any secondary school and more, after which they do WASC/GCE EXAMINATIONS.
Obviously
boys at this age cannot have their minds fully made up about
their future, but it is presumed that boys who come to the
seminary at least have a desire to serve God and their fellow
man as future priests.
During the six years at the seminary
they are given guidance and help to enable them to decide
whether or not God is calling them to be priests. No pressure
is put on them.
They are free to decide for themselves but
parents and guardians should realise that boys should not
be sent here just for education. It is expected that parents
and guardians who send their children to the Minor Seminary
will also allow them to go to the Major Seminary to complete
their studies for the Priesthood if the children wish to do
so.
OUR
HISTORY
We believe people would like to know the history of this Seminary.
St Theresa's Minor Seminary is situated on the historical
hill of Oke Are, the place where the Catholic faith was first
brought to Ibadan in 1895. Ibadan's first Catholic Church
(built in 1900). The church still stands in the Seminary campus till date, though
it is no longer in use as a church but a mark of the historical entrance of chritianity to the ancient city (Ibadan).
Since then Oke-Are has been
a centre of learning and prayer and it has had a major influence
on the church and on many aspects of life in Nigeria.
