OKE-ARE CHRISTMAS NEWS BULLETIN

To all parents/guardians,

Greetings

On behalf of the members of the board of Governors, His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Archbishop Felix Job, Bishop Albert Fashina and Bishop Alfred Martins, l wish you all a Grace filled Christmas celebration.

Academics

The term has come to an end and so we are happy to send them back to you for a while, we hope they don’t give you too much headache during this festive season. We are still using panadol for the ones they gave us.

We have been working tirelessly to make sure we give you good results for your efforts on your children, some of them have improved and some want to improve but they lack the skill to improve. For this reason, we have taken some steps to help them reach their goal in academic excellence, the steps are:

  • A compulsory workshop on “Study skills” organized by some lecturers from the Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, coming up on the 19th and 20th of January. IT IS MANDATORY FOR ALL SEMINARIANS. TO THIS EFFECT, ALL SEMINARIANS MUST RESUME ON THE 16TH OF JANUARY. The cost per head is N750.
  • The 30% for the continuous Assessment is going to be shared out into three parts. From resumption in January, the first test will be conducted on the first week of resumption to check their level of seriousness during the holiday, that will be 10% of the 30%. Another 10% will go into various class assignments and the remaining 10% will go into the real mid-term continuous assessment. So Parents and guardians, the onus is on you to make sure they study during the holidays.
  • For those in senior classes, it is compulsory that they pass the following subjects before they can be considered for promotion: English, Mathematics, Latin and Christian Religious Studies.
  • The pass mark is no more 50%, from next term , it will be 60%. In other words, 59.5% is not a pass mark anymore.

Music

Starting from next term we are re-introducing music to the curriculum of the Seminary. This will hopefully improve our singing to this effect, all seminarians are requested to resume with the following item,

  • Music for schools, book 1 (depending on his class, book 2 for those in Jss 2 etc ). By E.A. Inanga
  • Music Manuscript
  • Descant recorder

Christmas Cards

Our Christmas cards are out on sale, please patronize us.

Resumption

All SSS 3 seminarians will resume on Sunday the 9th of January, 2005, while the remaining seminarians will resume on the 16th of January. This is because of some repairs we have to undertake.

While we look forward to seeing them back in January, we wish you God’s protection always.

Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nwachukwu
